Q: Do carbon-ceramic brake discs (CCB) need to be broken in? What is the correct break-in method?
A: Carbon-ceramic brake discs must undergo a rigorous break-in process; otherwise, it will compromise braking performance and even lead to uneven contact between the brake pads and discs.
Correct break-in method:
After installing new discs (either for a new vehicle or as a replacement), drive at a speed of 40–60 km/h, apply the brakes gently until the vehicle comes to a complete stop, and repeat this process 20–30 times. This allows the brake pads and discs to form an initial uniform contact surface.
Avoid hard or sudden braking during the initial break-in period. After each braking cycle, drive for 1–2 km to dissipate heat and prevent localized overheating of the brake components.
Gradually increase the braking intensity only after the break-in is fully completed, which is typically achieved after accumulating a total mileage of 500–1000 km.
