Q: What are the core material components of carbon-ceramic brake discs? And are there any differences between them and conventional carbon fiber brake discs?
A: The core material of carbon-ceramic brake discs is carbon fiber-reinforced silicon carbide (C/SiC) composite material, consisting of carbon fiber preform as the "framework", silicon carbide ceramic as the matrix, with a wear-resistant and oxidation-resistant coating applied to the surface. Conventional carbon fiber brake discs (CCR) mostly adopt resin or carbon as the matrix, whose heat resistance (≤ 800℃) and wear resistance are far inferior to those of carbon-ceramic brake discs (with a heat resistance up to 1600℃), and their service life is only 1/5 to 1/10 that of carbon-ceramic brake discs.
